Soul Sides Vol. 1
A few years before he cut "Superman Lover," Watson put out an album (on Berkeley's Fantasy label) filled with these amazing soul/blues ballads on them. His voice is still as distinctive as ever but musically, it's far closer to sweet soul than the more funked up blues he'd make later. I had this LP in the crates for years but forgot about it; it wasn't until I heard Cool Chris at the Groove Merchant play it at the store that I remembered I had it and rediscovered it for a second time. Sample.
