Soul Sides Vol. 1 Let's set the record straight here: this is not a Janis Joplin song. Jopin had the higher-charting hit with her version but the original version was done by Erma Franklin who delivered, in my opinion, a far more amazing and gut-wrenching performance. Erma was overshadowed by sister Aretha but she completely owned this song in heart and soul. The song, in turn, will own you. Sample.
