Soul Sides Vol. 1
I didn't go out of my way to lace this comp with funk 45s - not that I don't appreciate the craze that erupted around them a few years back but I don't consider myself a heavy 45 collector at all. This said, it is absolutely true that some of the best songs only came out on 7" singles and to me, this underappreciated gem of funky soul from Deke Atkins' Deke imprint personifies that. I'm actually surprised there's not more interest in it: it's got such a great sound to it. Sample.
